A story from the scriptures tells of a poor but virtuous man named Sudama, who was encouraged by his wife to seek help from his childhood friend, Krishna, now a king. Sudama visited Krishna with a humble offering of puffed rice, feeling too ashamed to present such a meager gift amidst the palace’s grandeur. Krishna, however, joyfully received the gift, recognizing it was given with pure love. Despite forgetting to ask for financial help, Sudama returned home to find his humble hut transformed into a mansion, his family in fine clothes, and abundant wealth. This miraculous transformation was the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Krishna, who was moved by Sudama’s devotion and humility. Sudama realized that Krishna had understood his unspoken request and blessed him with wealth and prosperity.
